Tractor cab components are specified around visibility and noise as much as around strength. The cab structure has a glazed area that is unusually large for the size of the vehicle, which means the frame members are narrow and heavily loaded, and every one of them takes the load of the cab in a rollover rather than simply holding a window. That makes the fabrication of these parts a question of material grade and weld quality rather than of section size, and it is why cab frames are welded to a procedure and inspected rather than assembled and checked by eye. Beyond the structure, the components that come through this route are the mounting brackets, steps and panel fixings, and those are judged on whether they survive the vibration of a working tractor – which means captive fasteners and positive location rather than fasteners that can work loose.
