Industrial Automation Enclosures for OEM Projects

Buyers searching for industrial automation enclosures usually need more than a simple box. The enclosure must protect controls, fit cable routes, support internal mounting parts and keep a stable assembly relationship after bending, welding and coating. This page is positioned for procurement and engineering teams that need an OEM factory to fabricate custom sheet metal cabinet structures from drawings.

For automation projects, the RFQ should define the cabinet body, door layout, gland plate position, ventilation, grounding points, mounting plate, hardware and visible surface requirements. These details help avoid late changes after samples are produced.

Custom Electrical Enclosures for Control Systems

Industrial control cabinets often include punched or laser-cut openings for switches, HMI panels, connectors, fans, cable glands and internal brackets. Fulei Metal reviews cutout spacing, bend direction, weld access and powder coating coverage so the fabricated housing can be assembled consistently in a batch order.

Workflow Behind Industrial Control Cabinet

The normal route includes drawing review, material preparation, laser cutting or punching, CNC bending, welding or riveting, grinding and deburring, surface treatment, hardware assembly and final inspection. For cabinets with doors and removable plates, fit and alignment should be checked before packing.

Inspection Points on Industrial Control Cabinet

Inspection can include material checks, first article dimensional review, bend angle checks, weld appearance, coating surface checks, hole position checks, assembly confirmation and packing photos. Critical dimensions should be clearly marked on the drawing before quotation.

Heat, Ventilation and Cable Management

A control cabinet has to keep its components inside their temperature range and still be serviceable after it is installed. Both are decided on the drawing rather than on the shop floor, and both are easier to change at quotation stage than after coating.

LouversWe form louvers and add mesh or filter backing. The drawing needs position, size and whether the inside face has to be coated.
Fan or air-conditioner cut-outA rectangular or round aperture with fixing holes. Give the exact component reference — the aperture follows that part, not a nominal size.
Cable entry baseA removable plate or a brush strip opening. State the cable count and direction so the opening is large enough to work through.
Mounting plate and railWelded studs, tapped holes or a removable panel. State the load the plate has to carry, because that decides thickness and fixing method.
Door-mounted componentsReinforcement behind the door skin. Give the weight and cut-out size; thin doors need support or the latch will not hold alignment.
BondingBare contact faces or earthing studs. Mark where coating is not permitted — it cannot be removed afterwards without damaging the finish.

How much heat a cabinet has to remove comes from the components installed in it, so the ventilation is sized by you or by your panel builder. What we do is build the openings and mounts the design calls for accurately, and flag anything that conflicts with the structure, the coating or the sealing before the first part is made.

Sealing and ventilation pull in opposite directions. Louvers and fan apertures let heat out and also let dust and water in, so the drawing has to state which matters more for the installation. Where both are needed, a filtered aperture with a shroud is usually the practical answer. We build to that specification and confirm the parts we make; performance verification on the finished machine is done by you or by an approved laboratory.

Industrial Control Cabinet Questions, Answered

Can you manufacture industrial automation enclosures from customer drawings?

Yes. We work from buyer drawings or samples and review material, thickness, hole layout, mounting points, door structure, cable entry and assembly requirements before quotation.

What information is important for an industrial control cabinet RFQ?

Please send 2D and 3D drawings, cabinet size, material, thickness, finish, quantity, mounting plate design, door hardware, cable entry details and any inspection requirements.

Can you make enclosures for electrical control systems?

Yes. Custom sheet metal housings for control systems can include doors, panels, vents, brackets, gland plates, mounting plates, hinges, locks and powder coated surfaces.

Do you provide assembly for cabinet hardware?

Assembly can be reviewed according to the drawing. Typical items include hinges, locks, handles, grounding studs, cable entry parts, panels, brackets and fasteners.

Can the design be adjusted for manufacturing?

Yes. If bend radius, hole spacing, weld position or coating coverage may cause production risk, we can share DFM suggestions for the buyer to approve before production.

Are these cabinets standard catalog products?

Most projects are custom OEM sheet metal fabrication. Dimensions, material, cutouts, hardware and finish are confirmed by drawing instead of fixed catalog sizes.

Can you machine cut-outs for HMIs, connectors and fans?

Yes. Send the component references and we cut and form the apertures to suit, including fixing holes and reinforcement where a door-mounted part needs support. We review edge distance, bend clearance and burr removal before production, and confirm anything that looks tight.

Can some areas of the cabinet be left unpainted?

Yes. Bonding points, earthing studs and mounting faces can be masked during coating, and we can fit masking plugs or caps over threaded holes. Mark these areas on the drawing or give the reference for each one, because coating cannot be removed afterwards without damaging the finish.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Questions buyers ask before sending drawings

The nine questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.

What do you need from me to quote a part?

2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.

How long does a quotation take?

Enquiries are answered within one business day. Quotation time depends on the part. Simple components we can price straight from the drawing — laser-cut and bent sheet metal, brackets, panels, covers, machine guards — are quoted within 24 hours. Complex work such as assembled kiosks, welded frames and multi-part structures is quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, because the scope cannot be judged from the drawing alone; the date is confirmed in our reply.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Prototypes are made from a single piece, and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted in one staged quotation so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales. See low MOQ sheet metal fabrication.

Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?

Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list the features that are still undefined, and confirm them with you before production rather than assuming them.

Will you sign an NDA before I send drawings?

Yes. If your process requires one, say so in the first message and we will confirm what we can sign before any file is transmitted. Customer drawings are treated as confidential and used only for the project they were sent for. See our NDA page.

What payment and trade terms do you work with?

The standard structure is 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment. Some projects run on 70% advance payment with the 30% balance before shipment, and some on 100% payment in advance before production. Quotations are issued under EXW, FOB Ningbo, CIF or DDP, whichever your logistics team already works with.

What quality documents come with the parts?

Inspection documents are agreed with the order. Reports are provided on request, and material certificates and traceability can be supplied for the grades we purchase. Tell us in the enquiry which documents your own quality system requires, and we will confirm what we can provide before you order rather than after.

Who will handle my project?

One contact from drawing review through to shipment. Violet, our sales manager, coordinates drawings, DFM questions, quotation, samples, production updates and shipping documents, so you are not handed to a different person between quotation and delivery.

Can you scale from prototype to repeat production?

Yes. Prototype quantity and expected annual volume are quoted together, so tooling, nesting and packaging are planned once and the sample and production prices stay consistent. See prototype to production quotation and sheet metal DFM engineering review.
