Electrical enclosure component
Sheet Metal Cable Entry Gland Plate
A gland plate is a removable or fixed enclosure panel used to organize cable entry and support the required sealing, grounding and service strategy. Hole size alone is not enough: connector type, cable bend space, edge distance, plate stiffness, gasket path and installation access all influence the design.

Buyer summary
What to Decide Before Requesting a Quote
| Typical applications | Control cabinets, distribution boxes, HVAC and network enclosures |
|---|---|
| Common materials | Selected to match the enclosure, grounding and corrosion requirements |
| Critical interfaces | Cable glands, gasket, studs, grounding and mounting screws |
| Buyer files | Panel drawing, enclosure assembly, gland schedule and target environment |
Start with the Cable and Connector Schedule
The buyer should identify gland or connector type, quantity, thread or cut-out, cable diameter range and preferred entry direction. Service loops and bend radius can require more internal space than the visible hole pattern suggests.
For mixed power and signal entries, grouping, shielding and separation may affect the layout. Electrical design and compliance remain with the buyer's responsible engineering team; the fabricator uses that approved layout to manufacture the metal plate.
Plate Construction Affects Sealing and Installation
A removable gland plate needs a stable mounting face, practical fastener access and a continuous gasket strategy where environmental sealing is required. Plate thickness and reinforcement are reviewed against size, opening density and attached cable load.
Paint or powder coating can change thread and gasket interfaces. Grounding points, masked areas and bare-metal contact requirements should be explicitly marked rather than assumed.
Prototype Checks Should Use Real Hardware
The most reliable first-article review installs representative glands, fasteners and gasket material. The check confirms opening fit, cable access, tool clearance, grounding location and whether the plate can be removed without disturbing adjacent components.
An IP rating belongs to the completed tested enclosure system. Manufacturing a plate to an IP-oriented design does not by itself certify the final assembly, so test responsibility and documentation must be agreed separately.
Buyer questions
Questions Procurement and Engineering Teams Usually Ask
These answers define the discussion points. Final values and acceptance criteria are confirmed against the project drawing and purchase requirements.
What is the difference between a gland plate and a cable entry plate?
The terms are often used interchangeably. The important definition is the removable plate, opening pattern, gland or grommet system, grounding and sealing responsibility.
Can you supply a gland plate with cable glands installed?
Installation can be reviewed when the buyer provides the approved gland references, hole sizes, orientation, sealing requirement and component ownership.
Does a gland plate automatically make an enclosure IP rated?
No. Enclosure protection depends on the complete system, including plate joint, gasket, glands, fasteners, door seals and validated assembly.
