Fabrication Process
Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts cabinet body panels, doors, and frame components from flat sheet stock. CNC press brake machines form cabinet bodies, doors, and internal mounting panels. Component assembly uses TIG welding for stainless steel and MIG welding for galvanized steel, with continuous welds for IP-rated sealing. Surface treatments include powder coating, electropolishing, and anti-graffiti coatings. Our assembly team installs hinges, locks, gaskets, ventilation, cable management, and grounding systems.
Field Notes: Public Distribution Cabinets
A distribution cabinet on a public network has to do three jobs that pull against each other: keep water out to a stated ingress protection level, resist being forced open, and hold its shape while a door that is opened weekly swings on its hinges. The three meet at the door and the gasket face. A seal only works where it is compressed, so the gasket face has to be continuous and flat around the whole opening – which means the door has to be stiff enough not to dish, and the body has to stay flat through welding. Anti-vandal construction then adds a fourth requirement that works against the first: concealed hinges, internal fixings and stiffened panels all make the door harder to seal and heavier to operate. On this type of cabinet the practical answer is stiffness from formed returns rather than from added thickness, which keeps the door light enough to operate while keeping it flat enough to seal.
