Fabrication Process
Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts frame gussets, bracket components, and panel blanks from flat sheet stock with precise dimensions. Tube processing equipment cuts and notches roll cage tubes. CNC press brake machines form gusset profiles, panel shapes, and mounting brackets. Component assembly uses MIG welding for high-strength steel and TIG welding for aluminum, with full-penetration welds at structural connections. Surface treatments include powder coating, anodizing, and UV-resistant coatings.
Field Notes: UTV Roll Cages and Frame Components
A UTV roll cage is a safety structure, and that makes the fabrication requirements stricter than on a normal welded frame. The structure has to absorb energy rather than transmit it, which means the material specification and the weld quality are what the performance depends on, and any change to either is a change to the design rather than to the process. It also means the geometry is critical: the tubes have to run in the direction the loads arrive, the joints have to be reinforced where a member is loaded in bending, and the whole cage is welded in a fixture and measured as an assembly rather than part by part. It is worth being clear that certifying a cage to a vehicle safety standard is a separate exercise carried out by the vehicle manufacturer or a test house; what a fabricator supplies is the structure made to the drawings.
