The housing combines an aluminium extrusion for the body, a CNC operation on the mating faces and cable entries, a pressed steel base, and a powder coat to finish. One question comes up every time a lamp of this type is specified: why the base is steel when the body is aluminium. The answer is weight and cost – a denser base lowers the centre of gravity of an item that is often knocked, and it can be finished in a contrasting colour without changing the body.
