Case Study: Library Equipment Cabinets for an East Asian Programme

Equipment cabinets for self-check kiosks and library hardware have been supplied to a library furniture programme in East Asia since the programme began in 2024. A kiosk housing is a sealed enclosure that also has to look like furniture, and those two requirements meet at the gasket face. The face has to be continuous and flat for the seal to work, which means the door has to be stiff enough not to deflect when it is closed, and the panel behind it has to stay flat through welding. On this type of housing the door is stiffened with turned edges rather than made thicker, because thickness adds weight to a door that a librarian opens several times a day. Cable and ventilation apertures are positioned before cutting, since every aperture is a potential path for dust into a space that contains a computer.
