Understanding IP Ratings
The IP rating system, defined by IEC 60529, uses two digits to classify protection levels. The first digit (0-6) indicates protection against solid objects including dust. The second digit (0-9) indicates protection against water. IP65 is the standard for outdoor and wash-down environments. IP66 extends protection to powerful water jets. IP67 provides temporary submersion protection. IP69K provides protection against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets used in food processing wash-down.
Design Strategies for Ingress Protection
Gaskets are the primary seal between enclosure doors, panels, and bodies. We design gasket grooves into enclosure flanges using precision CNC bending. Door and panel flatness is critical, and our CNC press brake machines maintain flange flatness within 0.2 mm. Cable entries are the most common failure point, and we fabricate cable gland plates with properly sized holes. Fabrication Techniques

Case Study: Sealed Enclosures for a Norwegian Industrial Customer
Sealed enclosures formed part of a production run completed at Fulei Metal during 2025 for a manufacturing customer in Norway, alongside stainless mounting components, about 1,000 pieces in total. A sealed enclosure is only as good as its gasket face, and the gasket face is a flatness problem before it is a sealing problem. The face has to be continuous around the whole opening and flat enough that the seal is compressed evenly; if the door is dished, the seal touches at the corners and nowhere else, and the enclosure will pass a visual check and still let water in. On this type of work the gasket face is checked with a straight edge around the full perimeter, and the aperture positions for glands and cable entries are confirmed before cutting, because every aperture is a potential path for dust into a space that contains electronics.
