How This Outdoor Telecom Cabinet Is Fabricated and Checked

An outdoor cabinet has to do three things at once: keep weather out, manage the heat the equipment generates, and stay serviceable for years. All three are decided in the shell before it is painted.

StageWhat happensWhat is verified before the job moves on
Shell formingBody, roof, doors and base formed, with the roof given a fall or an overhangThe internal envelope and the roof form. A flat roof with no fall holds water instead of shedding it
Cut-outs and louvre formingVent and louvre apertures formed; cable and gland entries madeLouvre form and orientation, and burr condition at every entry
Frame welding and roof fittingFrame and corner seams welded; roof and base welded or sealed as designedSeam tightness and the condition of the sealing land where the roof meets the body
Door, seal and lockDoors fitted with gaskets, lock and hinges, with multi-point locking where specifiedGasket compression along the full door edge and lock engagement, checked on the finished cabinet
Thermal provisionFiltered intake and fan aperture, or a sealed unit with heat exchanger or external fanThe airflow path through the cabinet has to pass the equipment rather than around it
Surface preparation and coatingDegrease, phosphate and a coating system specified for external exposureFilm thickness on external faces, roof and base. The base and roof edge are where external coatings fail first
Assembly, seal check and packingHardware, earth bonding and internal fittings; water test where specified; wrapped and cratedSeal performance, bonding continuity, and the packed unit against the specification
Finished units wrapped and staged before shipment. External cabinets are packed against the transport route rather than the workshop floor.

What Can Change on Outdoor Telecom Cabinet Sheet Metal Without New Tooling

On an outdoor cabinet the two decisions that matter most are the cooling concept and the door arrangement, because they cannot easily be changed later.

What Buyers Usually Ask About Outdoor Telecom Cabinet Sheet Metal

How is the cooling requirement worked out?

From the heat the equipment generates, the ambient range on site and the solar load on the cabinet surface, not from the cabinet size. That is why the equipment list matters at enquiry stage: a cabinet that is thermally adequate in shade is not adequate in direct sun with the same load.

What is the difference between a filtered fan and a heat exchanger?

A filtered fan draws outside air in, so it cools well but brings dust and humidity with it. A heat exchanger keeps the two air paths separate, which suits dusty or corrosive sites and costs more. The site conditions decide which one is correct.

Does a louvre ever let water in?

Yes, if it is formed flat, made without a baffle, or faces into the prevailing weather with no shield. That is a design decision rather than a gasket problem, which is why the louvre form and orientation are agreed before the shell is cut.

Weather, heat and service access are the three requirements, and all three live in the shell. Tell us the site conditions and the equipment heat load through the RFQ form so the cooling approach is chosen against them rather than assumed. Heat, Water and Access: The Three Outdoor Problems

An outdoor telecom cabinet is a sealed box standing in the sun, which means it has three problems at once. Heat: a 42U enclosure holding active equipment generates load that has to leave through the walls, a fan tray, or an air conditioner, and a sealed IP55 box does not give it away for free. Water: the rating is achieved by sealing, and sealing is defeated by a gland plate that was cut to a different cable diameter or a door that sagged. Access: the equipment inside needs service, so the door, the locks and the internal rails get used repeatedly, and they are the parts that wear.

  • A door seal needs a continuous flat face to press against. Formed returns on the cabinet opening give it that face; a flat flange does not stay flat through welding.
  • Cable entry is usually the weak point. A gland plate cut to the actual cable sizes seals; a plate cut to a nominal layout gets modified on site.
  • Light grey powder coating is not only cosmetic – a light colour reduces solar gain compared with a dark one, which matters on a sealed cabinet in direct sun.

Siting, Anchoring and What We Do Not Decide

A 42U cabinet 800 mm wide and 800 mm deep is a substantial object with a high centre of gravity. How it is anchored – to a plinth, a concrete pad, or a steel frame – is a decision for the installer and the site engineer, along with wind exposure for the location. What we build is the cabinet: the gauge, the folds, the welds, the finish, the rail positions and the sealing detail.

The IP rating on a drawing is a design target; whether a finished cabinet meets it is verified on the unit, and we arrange that test per order with the report shipped with the batch. Thermal management of the installed equipment belongs to the system designer – if the cabinet needs a cut-out for a fan or an air conditioner, that has to be on the drawing before the first panel is cut, because adding it later means a new part. Lead time is quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Questions buyers ask before sending drawings

The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.

What do you need from me to quote Outdoor Telecom Cabinet?

2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.

How long does a quotation take?

Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.

Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?

Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.

Send Your Drawings

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Outdoor Telecom Cabinet — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Trade Terms and Delivery

We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.

  • EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
  • FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
  • CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
  • DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.

Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
