Wine Rack Fabrication: Elegant Storage from Sheet Metal

Learn how wine racks are designed and fabricated from sheet metal for residential and commercial wine storage. Discover material selection, bottle geometry, and real-world products.

Introduction

Proper wine storage requires racks that hold bottles horizontally to keep corks moist, provide stable temperature, and maximize storage density. Metal wine racks offer durability, precision, and modern aesthetics that complement contemporary wine cellars and kitchens. At Fulei Metal, we fabricate wine rack components for home goods brands and hospitality suppliers across Europe and Japan.

Wine Rack Types

Wall-mounted wine racks hold bottles horizontally in visible, accessible configurations. Countertop wine racks provide 2 to 6 bottle storage on kitchen counters. Floor-standing wine racks hold 12 to 40 bottles for serious collectors. Modular wine rack systems allow custom configurations for wine cellars. Wine glass racks integrate with bottle storage for complete wine service stations.

Material Selection

Stainless steel (grade 304) provides premium wine racks with corrosion resistance, strength, and modern aesthetics. We use 1.0 to 2.0 mm sheet and wire. Powder-coated steel provides cost-effective wine racks with color options. Iron with black powder coating provides a traditional, rustic aesthetic. For high-end products, brushed stainless steel offers a sophisticated appearance.

Design Considerations

Bottle openings must accommodate standard wine bottle dimensions (approximately 73 mm diameter) without being too loose or too tight. Bottles must be held securely in horizontal position to keep corks moist. Rack must support bottle weight without deflection. Edges must be smooth to prevent bottle label damage. Designs must be stable when partially loaded. Aesthetics should complement wine room or kitchen decor. For commercial applications, racks must allow easy bottle identification and removal.

Fabrication Process

Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts rack components, bottle supports, and frame parts from flat sheet stock. CNC press brake machines form rack bodies, brackets, and bottle cradles. Wire forming equipment creates wire bottle supports. Component assembly uses TIG welding for stainless steel and MIG welding for powder-coated steel, with all visible welds ground smooth. Surface treatments include brushed finishes for stainless steel and powder coating in client-specified colors.

Case Study: Wine Cellar Storage System

A European hospitality supplier required a modular wine rack system for restaurant wine cellars including wall-mounted, floor-standing, and under-counter configurations. We fabricated all components from 1.2 mm 304 stainless steel with brushed finish, precision-welded joints, and modular connector systems. The system has been installed in numerous restaurants, with the client reporting excellent durability and wine storage performance.

Conclusion

Wine rack fabrication requires understanding of bottle geometry, precision forming, and aesthetic design. Fulei Metal’s capabilities make us a trusted partner for wine storage projects.
