A heat pump control cabinet is an outdoor enclosure that has to be opened by a service engineer, in the weather, with the unit still expected to be sealed afterwards. That combination — repeated access with maintained ingress protection — is what the design has to solve.

Keeping IP66 After the Door Has Been Opened

The cabinet on this page is 1.5–2.0 mm SPCC (DC01) or SUS304, laser cut, CNC bent, spot welded and powder coated, built to IP66 (IEC 60529) with an EPDM door gasket, a 180° hinged door with a three-point locking handle, and DIN rail and gland plates top and bottom. IP66 is not a property of the box; it is a property of the gasket, the compression and the door. A three-point handle exists because it pulls the door down evenly onto the gasket along its full height — a single-point latch on a tall door seals at the latch and leaks at the corners.

Cable entry is the other half. Gland plates top and bottom let the installer drill and fit glands without breaching a factory-sealed face, and the IP rating then depends on the glands chosen and how they are fitted. That is why the plates are supplied as plates rather than pre-punched holes.

Specifying the Cabinet Around the Controller

  • Internal layout — DIN rail positions, the controller footprint, and the space needed for cable bending radius. Cable that will not bend is the usual reason a cabinet ends up too small.
  • Heat load — whether the enclosure needs ventilation. Sealing to IP66 and ventilating are in tension, and the resolution depends on what the controller rejects.
  • Material — painted SPCC for general outdoor use; SUS304 where the location is coastal, poolside or subject to washdown.
  • Size envelope — the typical range for this cabinet is 400–800 × 300–600 × 200–400 mm, but the dimension that governs is the internal layout, not the range.

These are settled in DFM review. For adjacent work see custom metal enclosure manufacturing and industrial control cabinets.

How the Rating and the Inspection Are Handled

The IP66 figure is a design target for the enclosure construction described — gasket, door, locking and gland arrangement achieving protection to IEC 60529. Formal verification of that rating, and any UL 50E listing of the finished assembly, are carried out by the equipment manufacturer or the test body they nominate. Our scope is the cabinet as drawn.

Inspection follows the buyer drawing and approved sample: dimensions, door fit and gasket compression, weld and seam condition, coating coverage, and the fitting of gland plates and DIN rail. Our enclosure inspection checklist sets out the order of checks. Samples are available at the stated fee, refundable against a bulk order.

Painted steel or stainless?

Painted SPCC covers most outdoor installations. SUS304 is the answer for coastal, poolside or chemically washed locations, where a coating chip becomes a corrosion start point.

Can the cabinet be ventilated and still hold IP66?

Not with a simple vent. It needs a rated breather or a ventilated gland arrangement, and the decision follows from the heat the controller rejects. Tell us the heat load and the options are set out.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Questions buyers ask before sending drawings

The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.

What do you need from me to quote Heat Pump Control Cabinet?

2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.

How long does a quotation take?

Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.

Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?

Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.

Send Your Drawings

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Heat Pump Control Cabinet — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
