A public charging enclosure has two jobs that are rarely written down together: keep the weather out of the electronics, and stay intact and closed in a place where nobody is watching it. IP54 covers the first. Anti-vandal design covers the second.
Sealing and Security Pull in Different Directions
The enclosure on this page is 2.0 mm galvanized steel, laser cut, bent, welded and powder coated, built to IP54 with internal cable management and anti-vandal construction. The tension is straightforward: sealing wants continuous gasketed joints and enclosed entries, while physical security wants concealed fixings, no external hinges and no accessible panels. Both are achievable; what is not achievable is adding either after the enclosure is designed.
Internal cable management matters more than it appears to. A charger cable is thick, stiff and heavy, and it is handled every day. Where it enters, what it hangs from, and how much of its weight lands on a gland instead of on the enclosure decides whether the IP rating survives a year of public use.
What to Specify for a Charging Enclosure
- Charger interface and heat load — the envelope follows the charger, and any ventilation follows the heat it rejects.
- Cable entry and support — entry position, gland type, and where the cable’s weight is carried.
- Access for service — which panel a technician opens, how often, and whether that can be done without exposing live parts.
- Fixing and anti-tamper detail — how the enclosure is anchored and how the panels are secured.
Settling these before cutting is the difference between an enclosure and a box that has to be reworked. See custom metal enclosure manufacturing for the wider capability, and DFM review for the stage at which they get settled.
How Ratings Are Handled
The IP54 rating on this page is a design target for the enclosure construction — the joint design, gasket and gland arrangement described. Whether a finished charge point meets IEC 61851 or SAE J1772 is determined by testing the complete charge point, and that testing and certification belong to the charger manufacturer or the body they nominate. Our scope is the enclosure as drawn.
Inspection follows the buyer drawing and approved sample: dimensions, door and panel fit, weld condition, coating coverage, and the fitting of glands and cable management. Our enclosure inspection checklist sets out what is checked. Samples are available at the stated fee — worth doing, because a first unit can be installed and used before thirty are built.
Can the IP rating be raised above IP54?
Yes, with a different gasket and gland specification and revised joint design. It is a design change rather than a finishing change, so it belongs in the drawing review and not in a note on the order.
Do you supply the charger or the electronics?
No. We build the enclosure and its metal interfaces. The charge controller, the cabling and the compliance of the finished charge point belong to the charger manufacturer.
What to Send for EV Charging Station Enclosure Pricing
The charger dimensions and heat load, the cable entry and support arrangement, the finish and colour, the mounting detail, and the quantity. Timing is quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Questions buyers ask before sending drawings
The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.
What do you need from me to quote EV Charging Station Enclosure | Fulei Metal?
2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.
How long does a quotation take?
Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.
Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?
Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.
How it’s made: EV charger enclosure fabrication — IP54 detailing, gaskets and thermal design.
Need a Similar Part?
Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for EV Charging Station Enclosure | Fulei Metal — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.
We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.
No complete drawings yet? Describe the part, send photos or a sketch, or send a sample — we can start from there. Discuss your project.
