A street name sign is a low-value part bought in quantity, and the specification that governs it is not the steel — it is the reflective face. The plate has to survive outdoors for years; the film has to still be legible at night when it is read from a moving vehicle.

What Actually Governs a Street Name Sign

The construction on this page is 1.0 mm galvanized steel with reflective film applied, cut, bent and finished, available in Class 1 or Class 2 reflectivity. The two classes differ in retroreflective performance, and the choice is normally dictated by the road authority’s specification rather than by preference — a residential street and a high-speed approach are not the same reading condition.

The galvanized substrate is what makes the part last. Film applied over a poorly prepared or inadequately protected edge will lift, and once it lifts at the edge it lifts across the face. That is why the edge condition and the surface preparation are specified on the drawing and checked before the film goes on.

Specifying a Sign That Passes Inspection

  • Reflective class and colour — Class 1 or Class 2, in green, blue or white. This is set by the authority’s standard for the road type.
  • Legend and layout — letter height, spacing and border, since legibility distance is a function of letter height.
  • Mounting — pole or wall, and the hole or bracket pattern that goes with it. A sign that cannot be mounted to the existing pole is the most common reason for rejection on site.
  • Quantity per legend — street signs are ordered as many unique legends in small numbers, not as one design in bulk. Packing and labelling have to match that.

Where a sign has to meet a standard such as MUTCD, conformance of the finished sign to that standard is determined by the specifying authority or their nominated test body. Our scope is the sign as drawn: substrate, dimensions, film class, colour and mounting detail.

How Sign Batches Are Made and Packed

Laser cutting, bending, film application. The recurring risk on this part is not geometry — it is mixed legends. Batches are separated and labelled by street name so a crew can find the sign they need without opening every bundle, and that labelling is planned before packing rather than added at the end.

Inspection follows the buyer drawing and approved sample: dimensions, hole pattern, film coverage and adhesion at the edges, and colour consistency across the batch. Samples are available at the stated fee so a first sign can be checked against the authority’s requirement before two hundred are made. See export packaging standards for shipment planning.

Class 1 or Class 2?

It depends on the road. Tell us the road type or paste the authority’s clause and we will quote to it; if there is no specification, we will ask what the signs are replacing.

Can you do mixed legends in one order?

Yes, and that is the normal shape of this order. Send the legend list as a spreadsheet alongside the drawing — one row per sign, with quantity and mounting.

What is the minimum order?

Two hundred units for this part. Because the cost is driven by set-up and handling across many unique legends, the unit price moves with both the total quantity and the number of distinct legends.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Questions buyers ask before sending drawings

The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.

What do you need from me to quote Street Name Sign?

2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.

How long does a quotation take?

Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.

Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?

Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.

Send Your Drawings

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Street Name Sign — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
