How This Pig Pen Partition Panel Is Fabricated and Checked
A pig pen partition lives in a washdown environment. The steel is not the problem – the joints, the edges and the surface are, because that is where a pen either cleans down or does not.
| Stage | What happens | What is verified before the job moves on |
|---|---|---|
| Blanking and forming | Panels laser cut and formed in 1200 x 800 mm size | Panel size and the edge detail. A panel with a folded edge is safer for the animals and cleans down better than one left as a cut edge |
| Edge folding | All exposed edges folded or formed over | That no cut edge is left exposed where an animal can work against it, and that the folded edge does not trap water |
| Frame welding | Panel frame welded, with the welds dressed where they will be washed | Weld continuity and dressing. A rough weld bead holds solids and is the first place a washdown misses |
| Drain and vent provision | Holes formed in any closed section so the galvanising bath can enter and drain | Hole positions, so no enclosed volume retains zinc or pre-treatment acid |
| Hot-dip galvanising | The panel is dipped, drained and cooled as standard | Zinc thickness and drain condition, and that no zinc has bridged a panel joint that has to move |
| Optional PVC coating | A PVC layer applied over the galvanising where the site requires it | Coating adhesion and coverage, particularly at the edges where a coating lifts first |
| Packing | Panels stacked with spacers and protected edges | That panels are not stacked wet, because wet-stacked galvanised steel forms white rust in transit |

Revisions That Skip New Tooling on Pig Pen Partition Panel
Panel size and the coating system are the two decisions worth spending time on; the frame follows.
| What can be changed | What it affects | What it does not affect |
|---|---|---|
| Panel size and fixing arrangement | Frame layout, the number of panels per pen and the packing | The material |
| Infill: solid sheet, mesh or slats | Visibility, airflow and how easy the pen is to clean | The frame |
| Finish: galvanised, or PVC over galvanising | Resistance to washdown chemicals and the hygiene level the site requires | The panel geometry |
| Edge and corner treatment | Animal safety, and how the pen reads at inspection | The panel size |
| Guarding against a specific chemical | Whether standard galvanising is adequate or a coated system is needed | The structure |
| Fixing method: bolted, clamped or hung | How the pen is assembled and reconfigured | The panel |
Pig Pen Partition Panel: Common Buyer Questions
When is the PVC coating worth the extra cost?
Where the site uses aggressive washdown chemicals, or where the pen has to meet a biosecurity regime that specifies an impervious surface. Galvanising handles water and most farm chemicals well; PVC handles the strong disinfectants and gives a fully smooth surface. If the chemical list is known, that is the honest input for the decision.
Why are the edges folded rather than left as cut edges?
Two reasons. A folded edge is safer for an animal working against the panel, and it cleans down better, because a cut edge holds a sharp corner that a brush cannot get into and that a coating cannot cover evenly. Folding the edge costs one operation and removes both problems.
How should the panels be stored on site?
Stacked with spacers so air moves between them, and never stacked wet. Galvanised steel that stays wet in a stack forms white rust on the contact faces within days, and once the white rust is there the surface looks damaged even though the zinc is still doing its job.
Edge treatment and the coating system decide how a pen behaves in a washdown house. Send the washdown chemicals and the pen layout through the RFQ form and the finish is chosen against them. Related: surface finishing, welding and export packaging.
Surface Choice: Galvanized or PVC Coated
Pig pen partitions have a harder environment than most livestock equipment. The animals bite and rub, the pen is washed down regularly, and the waste is corrosive. Hot-dip galvanized steel handles the corrosion and the wash-down. A PVC coating over the galvanized layer adds a smooth, bite-resistant surface and takes the edge off the metal, which is why it is offered as an option – but it is a coating that can be chewed through, and once it is breached on a wire the zinc underneath is what keeps the part serviceable. That is why the PVC option is applied over galvanizing rather than instead of it.
- Wire mesh at 50 x 100 mm on a 25 x 25 mm frame suits grower and finisher pens; weaners need a tighter opening.
- Every weld is ground smooth. “No sharp edges” is a real specification on a pig pen, not a nicety – rough welds cause injuries and they catch during wash-down.
- PVC coating thickness and colour are specified on the order; a thin coating on a high-wear panel is a false economy.
Fixing Details That Survive Wash-Down
Pen partitions are bolted or clipped to posts, and that connection is what gets tested when an animal pushes. The detail has to resist upward lift as well as sideways push, because a pig will get under a panel that is only held against lateral load. We supply the panel with the fixing method the drawing specifies and flag it when a connection looks weak in the lifting direction.
Corrosion in a piggery starts at the floor line, where the panel meets wet concrete and slurry. If your installation sits panels in standing waste, tell us at quote stage – the material and coating decision changes for that zone, and the lower rail can be specified differently from the rest of the panel. Lead time is quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Questions buyers ask before sending drawings
The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.
What do you need from me to quote Pig Pen Partition Panel?
2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.
How long does a quotation take?
Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.
Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?
Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.
Need a Similar Part?
Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Pig Pen Partition Panel — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.
We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.
No complete drawings yet? Describe the part, send photos or a sketch, or send a sample — we can start from there. Discuss your project.
