How This Industrial Handrail System Is Fabricated and Checked
A handrail system is a safety part with a geometric requirement. Rail height, fixing positions and the continuity of the run are what get inspected, and all three are set by how the sections are cut and joined.
| Stage | What happens | What is verified before the job moves on |
|---|---|---|
| Section cutting and mitring | Posts, rails and corner sections cut and mitred | Cut length and mitre angles. A run with mitred corners is only as good as those angles |
| Post and rail provision | Post base plates and rail brackets formed or cut | Base plate flatness and the position of the rail brackets relative to the post, since these set the rail height |
| Welding and joint preparation | Posts welded to base plates; joints made where the design calls for welded connections | Base plate flatness after welding, and that posts are perpendicular to the plate rather than to the ground |
| Hole and slot provision | Fixing holes and slotted connections made | Hole positions and slot direction, where site tolerance has to be absorbed |
| Surface preparation and coating | Coating to the exposure category, galvanising, or mill finish stainless | Thickness and coverage at the base of the post, which is where the environment attacks first |
| Trial assembly | A representative section assembled to check the run and the height | That rail height and bracket positions match across the joints |
| Packing | Sections bundled and labelled by position in the run | That parts can be identified on site. In a long run, similar-looking sections are the usual source of installation errors |

Adjusting Industrial Handrail System Without New Tooling
Run geometry and finish are the variables; the section sizes follow from the load and the span.
| What can be changed | What it affects | What it does not affect |
|---|---|---|
| Run length and post spacing | Section size, post count and the packing | The fixing to the structure |
| Rail height | Post length and bracket positions | The section |
| Straight runs, corners or radii | Mitring, bending and the number of joints | The post design, provided the base plates stay |
| Infill panels or mesh | Welding, additional brackets and the finish | The rail |
| Fixing method to floor or structure | Base plate pattern and the anchors needed | The posts |
| Finish | Exposure category and expected service life | Nothing structural |
Industrial Handrail System Questions, Answered
How is rail height verified?
At the base plate. If a post is not perpendicular to its plate, the rail height varies along the run even though every post is the same length, and the error is not obvious until the rails are offered up. Perpendicularity is therefore checked before coating rather than at installation.
Welded, bolted, or a mix?
Welded connections give a stiffer run and fewer parts on site. Bolted connections are easier to transport and can absorb an uneven structure, so long runs are often a mix with bolted joints at defined positions. It is worth deciding at design stage rather than on site.
Can the system be made to a specific project requirement?
We manufacture to the dimensional, material and loading requirements on the drawing. Where a project has to demonstrate compliance to a particular standard, state which one at enquiry stage so those requirements are designed in rather than assessed afterwards.
Rail height and post perpendicularity are what the finished run is judged on, so both are controlled before coating. Send the layout and the fixing structure through the RFQ form and the base plates and brackets are made to it. Related: welding, surface finishing and custom sheet metal fabrication.
Handrail Heights, Loads and the Middle Rail
An industrial handrail is a safety system with dimensions set by the standard the site works to: the top rail height, the horizontal load it must resist, whether a mid rail or an intermediate rail is required, and whether a toe plate is needed to stop objects being kicked off a platform. Those are not shop preferences and we do not vary them. We build to the drawing, and where a drawing omits a height or a load we ask rather than assume.
- Top rail height and the horizontal load figure come from the applicable code, stated on the drawing.
- Mid rails and toe plates are included where the standard requires them for the location.
- Joints between rail and post are detailed to carry the load in the direction it is applied, which is usually horizontal.
Site Assembly and the Certification Boundary
Handrail is shipped in lengths and assembled on site, which means the system has to go together without cutting or welding in the air. That drives the joint design: sleeved or bolted connections with the hole positions set in the shop, and a tolerance allowance for the structure it lands on, because a concrete slab or a steel deck is never exactly where the drawing said. Knee and ramp sections are the parts that get cut on site when they are not detailed, so we recommend they are pre-made to the surveyed angle.
Finish is hot-dip galvanizing for external and most internal industrial work, powder coated where the site wants a safety colour. The compliance of the installed handrail system – heights, loads and any certification – is verified by the contractor or the site’s own competent person against the standard they work to. Lead time is quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Questions buyers ask before sending drawings
The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.
What do you need from me to quote Industrial Handrail System?
2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.
How long does a quotation take?
Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.
Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?
Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.
Need a Similar Part?
Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Industrial Handrail System — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.
We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.
No complete drawings yet? Describe the part, send photos or a sketch, or send a sample — we can start from there. Discuss your project.
Trade Terms and Delivery
We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.
- EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
- FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
- CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
- DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.
Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.
Quotation Time
We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:
- Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
- Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.
Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
