Our library book return cart is engineered for the demanding environment of public and university libraries. The cart body is fabricated from 1.0mm cold-rolled steel, laser-cut and CNC bent for precise assembly. Three tiered shelves feature a 15° slope for efficient book collection, with laser-cut book-stop lips at the front edge. The frame is MIG welded and powder-coated in a smooth, easy-to-clean finish. Four 125mm silent polyurethane casters (2 with brakes) provide smooth, quiet mobility essential in library environments.

Manufacturing Notes
A book return cart is judged by two things the specification sheet rarely mentions: whether it rolls quietly, and whether a full load stays put while it is moving. Both are set by the frame and the caster mounting.
- Sheet thickness: 0.8mm to 1.2mm SPCC. The 15° sloped shelves carry a considerable book load at the front lip, so we normally recommend 1.0mm or above for three-tier carts; 0.8mm is only used for light two-tier units.
- Slope and book stops: The 15° slope is formed on the press brake and the book-stop lip is laser-cut into the shelf blank, not welded on afterwards. A welded lip leaves a bead that catches the last book in the row.
- Frame and casters: The frame is MIG welded for a continuous joint, and caster plates are welded to the frame rather than fixed to the shelf underside. Casters are polyurethane on 125mm wheels for quiet running on hard library floors.
- Finish: Phosphate pre-treatment followed by powder coating at 60–80μm, chosen because library carts are wiped down frequently and a thin coating wears through at the shelf edges.

Inspection & Quality Control
Because these carts move loaded across public floors, the inspection focuses on fit, rolling quality and stability rather than cosmetics alone.
- Incoming material: Sheet thickness verified per batch; mill certificate held for the SPCC.
- First article inspection (FAI): A complete cart is assembled and checked for the 15° shelf angle, lip height, tier spacing and caster plate positions.
- Rolling test: The loaded cart is pushed over a 3m test run including a 5mm floor joint; any wheel lift, wobble or noise is investigated before the batch is released.
- Stability under load: Loaded cart pushed at walking speed and stopped sharply at each tier; shelves are checked for deflection and the book-stop lip for gaps.
- Coating: Film thickness checked at shelf edges and corners — the areas that wear first — plus a cross-hatch adhesion test on a sample unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we have two tiers instead of three?
Yes, two, three and four tier versions are all built on the same frame tooling. Tier count changes the frame height and the number of shelf blanks, so there is no new tooling cost.
Are the casters quiet enough for a reading room?
The standard 125mm polyurethane casters with sealed bearings are the quiet option and are what we specify for reading rooms. Hard nylon casters are noisier but last longer on rough floors.
Can the cart be built to a different footprint?
Yes. The 850×450×950mm size is our standard, and depth and tier spacing are adjusted to suit your book sizes. Send the largest book format you handle and we will set the tier pitch.
What is the MOQ?
