Learn how towel racks are designed and fabricated from stainless steel for bathroom applications. Discover material selection, load design, and real-world product examples.

Where Towel Rack Fabrication Fits in a Build

Towel racks provide essential storage for towels in bathrooms, requiring corrosion resistance in moist environments and adequate strength to support wet towel weight. Metal towel racks, particularly those fabricated from stainless steel, offer superior durability and hygiene compared to plastic or wooden alternatives. At Fulei Metal, we fabricate towel rack components for bathroom accessory brands across Europe, Japan, and South Korea.

Towel Rack Types

Wall-mounted towel bars provide horizontal hanging space for towels in single or double-bar configurations. Towel rings provide compact hanging space for hand towels. Heated towel rails warm towels while drying them, requiring integration with electrical or hydronic heating systems. Freestanding towel stands provide flexible placement without wall mounting. Over-door towel racks hook over bathroom doors for temporary installation.

What Material Suits Towel Rack Fabrication

Stainless steel (grade 304) is the standard material for towel racks, providing essential corrosion resistance in humid bathroom environments. Grade 316L is specified for coastal or particularly humid environments. We use 1.0 to 2.0 mm sheet and 1.0 to 1.5 mm tube. Brushed finishes are the most popular, providing a modern, low-maintenance appearance. For heated towel rails, tube must accommodate electrical wiring or hydronic fluid.

Detail Decisions on Towel Rack Fabrication

Towel racks must support the weight of wet towels, which can be 1 to 2 kg per towel. Wall mounting must distribute loads safely to wall structures with appropriate anchors. Bar length must accommodate standard bath towel widths (typically 500-700 mm). All surfaces must be smooth and easy to clean without crevices where moisture or bacteria could accumulate. Edges must be rounded for safety. Designs must complement bathroom decor with modern, minimalist aesthetics. For heated rails, thermal distribution must be uniform.

Shop Sequence for Towel Rack Fabrication

Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts bracket components, mounting plates, and end caps from flat sheet stock. Tube processing equipment cuts towel bar tubes to length with precise dimensions. CNC press brake machines form brackets and mounting plates. Tube bending equipment creates curved towel ring components. Component assembly uses TIG welding for stainless steel, producing smooth, polished welds. Surface treatments include brushed, mirror-polished, or PVD finishes.

Field Notes: Towel Rails and Bathroom Rails

A towel rail is a tube product whose performance is decided by the fixing rather than by the tube. The load is small but it is applied at a distance from the wall, and it is often applied suddenly when somebody grabs a rail that is not where they expected it to be. That makes the wall flange the critical component, and it is usually the smallest and cheapest-looking part on the assembly – which is why it is worth specifying on the fixing rather than on the rail. Two further points come up on rails in wet rooms. The surface that never gets looked at is the underside, and in a bathroom people look at a rail from below, so the underside is finished to the same standard and not left as a witness to the manufacturing process. And where the rail is stainless, the grade matters because chlorides in cleaning products can pit 304 under repeated exposure.

From Drawing to First Article on Towel Rack Fabrication

Towel rack fabrication requires corrosion resistance expertise, precision tube fabrication, and aesthetic design. Fulei Metal’s capabilities make us a trusted partner for bathroom accessory projects.

Send drawings and we will check them against our DFM engineering review capability before quoting. You can also see how this fits into our custom metal enclosure manufacturing work, or read Bathroom Accessory Fabrication first if you are still comparing options.

What a Towel Rail Actually Carries

A towel rail is asked to hold a wet towel, which is heavier than it looks, and in many bathrooms it ends up being used as a support. Those are two different load cases and they need two different answers. Where a rail is genuinely intended as a grab rail, the fixing to the wall governs everything: the bracket has to spread the load into the substrate and the wall has to be able to take it. We ask what the wall is made of before quoting, because a rail into plasterboard on studs and a rail into solid brick are not the same product.

  • Bracket footprint and fixing centres follow the substrate, not the rail length.
  • Where the wall is weak, a backing plate or a stud-mounted detail is specified on the drawing.
  • Load testing of the installed rail, and any accessibility certification, sits with the specifier or the product brand.

Finish Durability in a Humid Room

Bathroom finishes are tested by water, by cleaning products and by contact. Chrome plating over a properly prepared substrate gives a hard bright surface that resists wiping; brushed stainless hides marks better and is more forgiving of a scratch; powder coating gives colour but needs a clean pre-treatment or it lifts at an edge. Whatever the finish, the edge of a hole and the corner of a bracket are where it fails first, which is why we radius and deburr before finishing rather than after.

Where the rail is heated – a towel warmer – the finish specification and any electrical approval belong together, and the electrical certification for the finished appliance is the responsibility of the manufacturer placing it on the market. Our scope is the metalwork built to the drawing. Lead time is quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Towel Rack Fabrication — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Trade Terms and Delivery

We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.

  • EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
  • FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
  • CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
  • DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.

Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
