What an Industrial Cable Management System Actually Includes

Effective cable management is essential for safe, maintainable, and compliant industrial electrical installations. While cable trays are the most visible component, a complete cable management system includes baskets, conduits, fittings, supports, and accessories. At Fulei Metal, we fabricate comprehensive cable management solutions for industrial clients.

Cable Management Components

Wire mesh cable baskets offer a lightweight, flexible alternative to traditional cable trays, ideal for data centers and control panel wiring. Ladder and perforated cable trays handle heavier cable loads and longer spans, fabricated to NEMA VE 1 and IEC 61537 standards. For individual cable protection, we fabricate conduit fittings and connectors. Cable entry into enclosures requires properly sized and sealed connectors, and we fabricate cable gland plates with pre-cut holes for standard gland sizes.

Support systems require trapeze brackets, cantilever brackets, and J-hooks from formed steel or stainless steel. Metal cable clamps are fabricated for high-temperature or high-vibration applications where plastic ties are inadequate. We also fabricate tag mounting brackets and identification plate holders for cable identification systems.

Material and Finish for Cable Management Hardware

For indoor applications, pre-galvanized steel provides adequate corrosion resistance at economical cost. Hot-dip galvanizing after fabrication provides the highest level of corrosion protection for steel cable management products. Stainless steel cable management is used in food processing, pharmaceutical, marine, and corrosive environments. Powder coating provides color coding, additional corrosion protection, and improved aesthetics.

How Cable Management Hardware Is Fabricated

Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts trays, baskets, and brackets from flat stock. CNC press brake machines form tray rails, bracket profiles, and fitting components. Ten welding stations handle wire basket welding, tray assembly, and structural bracket fabrication. Surface treatment capabilities include galvanizing, powder coating, and stainless steel finishing.

Project Example: Petrochemical Facility

A Southeast Asian petrochemical company required a complete cable management system for a new processing unit. The project included over 3,000 meters of hot-dip galvanized cable tray, 500 stainless steel brackets, and hundreds of custom fittings for routing around process equipment. We delivered the system in phased shipments over four months, with all components meeting the client’s stringent quality requirements.

Specifying Cable Management From the Route, Not the Catalogue

Comprehensive cable management solutions require more than standard trays and baskets. Fulei Metal’s full-range fabrication capabilities, engineering support, and commitment to quality ensure that clients receive complete systems that organize, protect, and maintain their critical wiring infrastructure.

If you are sourcing this type of part, our DFM engineering review page covers the tolerances, batch sizes and inspection we work to, and custom sheet metal fabrication shows the wider range we produce in Ningbo, China. How Tray and Basket Geometry Gets Specified

Cable management hardware is bought by the metre and installed by the run, which means the drawing work is mostly about the transitions. Straight tray is commodity; the parts that decide whether an installation goes in cleanly are the risers, the bends, the tee intersections and the reducers where a wide run narrows into a narrower one. Those are the pieces that arrive wrong when a schedule is written from a cable count instead of from a route.

Two dimensions do most of the work: the internal width that the cable bundle has to sit in, and the bend radius the largest cable in that bundle is allowed. The second is the one that gets missed. Cable has a minimum bend radius set by its construction, and a fabricated bend that is tighter than that will damage the cable during pulling or leave it permanently stressed. State the largest cable in the run and its minimum radius on the enquiry, and the bend geometry follows.

Trays, baskets or conduit for this run?

Tray where the run is heavy and needs support at intervals and future additions are expected. Basket where the run is lighter and frequent drop-outs are needed. Conduit where a single circuit needs mechanical protection. Most installations use two of the three, and the transition pieces are what we fabricate.

Can you make non-standard widths and bends?

Yes — most of what we produce for cable management is to a route drawing rather than to a catalogue size. Send the run layout, the cable sizes and the support spacing.

Galvanizing, Coating and Where Corrosion Starts

Finish choice on cable management follows the environment, and the environments differ more than the products do. Indoor dry plant rooms take pre-galvanized or powder-coated steel without difficulty. Outdoor runs, coastal sites and any area that is washed down need hot-dip galvanizing, because the corrosion on these parts almost always starts at a cut edge or a punched hole rather than on the flat surface — and a zinc coating protects those edges in a way paint cannot.

The detail worth settling early is whether the hardware is galvanized before or after fabrication. Cutting and punching after galvanizing exposes bare steel at every hole; fabricating first and galvanizing the finished part leaves the coating continuous. For outdoor and washdown work the second route is the one that lasts, and it is a drawing note, not a process preference.

Inspection follows the buyer drawing and the approved sample, with general tolerances to ISO 2768 unless stated. Batch documentation records material and coating — see material certification and traceability. Long runs are bundled and packed to keep coated faces apart; for export consignments see export packaging standards. Where an installation has to satisfy an electrical installation standard, that assessment belongs to the installing contractor or the authority having jurisdiction, who know the complete system.

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Industrial Cable Management Solutions — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Trade Terms and Delivery

We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.

  • EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
  • FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
  • CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
  • DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.

Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
