Component assembly uses MIG welding for steel and TIG welding for stainless steel, with continuous welds for oil containment. Surface treatments include powder coating with oil-resistant formulations and cleaning to remove manufacturing residues.

Field Notes: Reducer and Gearbox Housings

A reducer housing is a locating part rather than a container, so the dimensions that decide whether it works are the ones that set shaft centres and bearing fits. That changes the whole emphasis of the work: the critical features are machined after forming rather than formed and left, because welded and folded assemblies move slightly and a bearing seat cannot move at all. The check that matters is the position of each machined face relative to the others, not only the size of each one – a housing where every individual dimension is within tolerance can still put a shaft out of line, and a shaft that is out of line shows up as vibration and premature bearing failure rather than as a dimensional failure at assembly. Housings in this class are also checked for wall thickness at the bearing bosses, where the casting or forming is thinnest.
