How This DIN Rail Mounting Plate Is Fabricated and Checked

A DIN-rail mounting plate looks like a simple part until tolerance is considered: the rail height above the plate decides whether components clip on, and the plate pattern decides whether the plate lines up with the enclosure.

StageWhat happensWhat is verified before the job moves on
Plate cutting and blankingPlate cut to size and the mounting pattern madePlate size, hole positions and burr condition, which matters once the plate is loaded with components
Rail preparationDIN rail cut to length and the cut ends deburredRail length and end condition. A burr at the end catches components as they are slid on
Rail fixingRail mounted to the plate at the correct stand-offRail height above the plate and its straightness along the length, which is what the component clips actually engage

Where DIN Rail Mounting Plate Sheet Metal Can Be Revised Without New Tooling

The rail is a standard part, so almost all the customisation happens on the plate around it.

Short Answers on DIN Rail Mounting Plate Sheet Metal

Why does the rail stand-off matter?

Because DIN components clip onto the rail profile and the clip needs the space behind the rail that the component was designed around. Mounted too close to the plate, components either will not clip on or will not release cleanly, and it usually shows up during wiring at the panel builder.

Can the plate be supplied pre-drilled to our component layout?

Yes, and that is the point of the part. Send the layout and the hole pattern is made to it, with rail positions set to the components rather than to a nominal centre. Changing the layout afterwards means a new plate, which is why it is worth finalising first.

Is a powder-coated plate acceptable inside a panel?

Usually yes, and it is common. Two things to check: that coating has not closed up the fixing holes, and that the plate still makes a reliable earth connection through whatever interface the design uses.

The plate is cheap to change while the layout is still open and expensive once components are mounted on it. Send the component arrangement through the RFQ form and the pattern is made to that layout. Related: custom sheet metal fabrication, CNC bending and surface finishing.

Why Hole Pattern Accuracy Matters More Than Plate Flatness

A DIN rail mounting plate is a hole pattern with a sheet attached. The plate can be slightly out of flat and still work, because it gets pulled down onto a backplate by its fixings. A hole that is 0.4 mm out of position, on the other hand, means the rail will not seat, or it seats under stress and the devices clipped to it sit out of alignment across a whole panel. That is why the tolerance on this part is tighter than on most brackets, and why we hold the pattern in one setup rather than moving the sheet between operations.

  • The 35 mm rail width is a standard dimension; the plate has to present it without forcing the rail, so slot width and the retaining lip are checked on the first piece.
  • Punched holes in 1.5 mm galvanized sheet leave a burr on the exit side. We deburr as a separate step, because a burr lifts the rail off the face it is supposed to sit on.
  • Standard 5 mm or 6 mm hole patterns are only standard until someone needs a mixed layout – if your panel has both, say so on the drawing rather than ordering two part numbers.

Coating Choices for a Galvanized Base Material

The base sheet already carries a zinc layer, which is the first line of defence. Adding a zinc-plated finish on top is a belt-and-braces decision for humid or coastal panels; adding powder coating over galvanized material is possible but needs the right pre-treatment or it will flake at the edges. We ask which of the two the panel is going into before quoting, because the answer changes the process route and the cost, not just the colour.

Scratches at the sheared edge are the normal corrosion start on this type of part. Because the sheet is cut after galvanizing, the exposed edge has no zinc on it. Where the panel goes into a damp environment we discuss a coated or stainless alternative rather than pretending the cut edge is protected. Send the drawing with the environment noted and we will come back with the route, the quantity breakpoints and a lead time quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Questions buyers ask before sending drawings

The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.

What do you need from me to quote DIN Rail Mounting Plate?

2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.

How long does a quotation take?

Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.

Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?

Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for DIN Rail Mounting Plate — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Trade Terms and Delivery

We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.

  • EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
  • FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
  • CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
  • DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.

Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
