What Slatted Floor Support Fabrication Has to Survive

Slatted floors are a standard feature of modern livestock housing, allowing animal waste to pass through to storage areas below while providing a stable walking surface. The support frames that hold slatted floor panels must withstand significant loads from animals, equipment, and accumulated waste. At Fulei Metal, we fabricate slatted floor support frames for livestock housing across Europe and Southeast Asia.

Slatted Floor Support Design

Support frames must carry the weight of animals standing on the floor, which can exceed 500 kg per square meter for cattle. Frames must also support equipment loads from tractors, feed carts, and cleaning equipment. The support span between frame members affects floor panel capacity, with typical spans of 1.0 to 2.0 meters. Frame design must accommodate the specific floor panel type, whether concrete, plastic, or cast iron, with precise dimensions for panel support and alignment.

Picking Material for Slatted Floor Support Fabrication

Hot-dip galvanized steel is the standard material for slatted floor supports. The zinc coating provides essential corrosion resistance in the highly corrosive environment beneath slatted floors, where manure, urine, and moisture create aggressive conditions. We use 2.0 to 4.0 mm thick steel tube and angle, depending on the span and load requirements. For the most corrosive environments, stainless steel (grade 304) provides superior longevity.

Tolerances and Details on Slatted Floor Support Fabrication

Support frames must be designed to prevent sagging under load with appropriate beam sizing and intermediate supports. Frames must resist corrosion from manure and moisture beneath the floor, requiring galvanizing after fabrication. Frame design must accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of floor panels. Frames must be designed for installation in new construction and retrofit applications, with modular designs that can be adapted to various barn configurations.

How Slatted Floor Support Fabrication Is Fabricated

Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts frame components, bracket plates, and mounting hardware from flat sheet stock. Steel tubes and angles are cut to length and notched for frame assembly. CNC press brake machines form reinforcement components and bracket profiles. Frame assembly uses MIG welding with continuous welds for structural integrity. All frame assemblies are hot-dip galvanized after fabrication to coat all surfaces including internal tube surfaces.

Slatted Floor Supports: Why the Tolerance Is Tighter

The tolerance on this part is tighter than on fencing, and the reason is worth stating: the beams carry the floor, and the floor has to finish level across the whole house. A pocket or notch that is a few millimetres out at one beam becomes a step in the floor surface by the time the slats are laid, and a step in a floor is a welfare and cleanliness problem as well as a construction one. Support steel is therefore held to the tighter of the two tolerances on the drawing, and it is checked after galvanizing rather than before – long, thin sections move in the zinc bath.

How We Quote Slatted Floor Support Fabrication

Slatted floor support fabrication requires structural engineering, corrosion protection expertise, and understanding of livestock housing design. Fulei Metal’s experience in livestock equipment fabrication makes us a trusted partner for slatted floor support projects.

Send drawings and we will check them against our DFM engineering review capability before quoting. You can also see how this fits into our custom sheet metal fabrication work, or read Cattle Fence Panel Fabrication first if you are still comparing options.

Load Paths in a Slatted Floor Support

A slatted floor support carries more than the standing weight of the animal. It takes the impact of a hoof, the point load when an animal lies down and pushes up, the weight of slurry on the panel, and the sideways force of a high-pressure wash. The support beam is what keeps the panel flat under all of it, so the span between supports is the number that decides whether the floor feels solid or spongy after a season. We work to the span and the load the drawing states, and we say clearly when a span looks long for the section being used.

  • Support spacing is set from the panel section, not from a default; a longer span needs a deeper section or an intermediate bearer.
  • Connections between bearer and cross member are detailed so the load transfers in shear rather than pulling on the fastener.
  • Deflection is a service condition as much as a strength one – a floor that bounces gets damaged faster.

Corrosion Inside Livestock Buildings

Livestock housing is one of the more aggressive environments a mild steel part can be asked to survive. Ammonia from urine, hydrogen sulphide from slurry, constant humidity and regular washing all attack steel, and they attack welds and cut edges first. Hot-dip galvanizing after fabrication is the usual answer for supports, because it coats the inside of hollow sections and the edges of every hole. Where the budget allows, or where the building is washed with aggressive disinfectant, stainless removes the question entirely.

The order of operations matters. Galvanizing after welding covers the seam; welding after galvanizing burns the coating off and leaves the joint bare unless it is re-protected, so we raise this before the process is fixed. Coating thickness is supplied to the value on the drawing and checked on the batch. Corrosion performance of the finished installation is verified by the buyer or their own inspector against the standard they work to – our scope is the fabricated component as specified.

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Slatted Floor Support Fabrication for Modern — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Trade Terms and Delivery

We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.

  • EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
  • FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
  • CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
  • DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.

Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
