Learn how milking equipment components are fabricated for dairy operations. Discover stainless steel construction, hygiene design, and real-world dairy farm installations.
Introduction
Modern dairy farming relies on sophisticated milking equipment that must maintain strict hygiene standards while withstanding daily use and aggressive cleaning protocols. From milking parlor stalls to pipeline supports and control panel housings, each component must be fabricated from materials that resist corrosion and meet food safety standards. At Fulei Metal, we fabricate milking equipment components for dairy operations across Europe and Asia.
Milking Equipment Components
Milking parlor stall components include stall frames, gates, and feed barriers from galvanized or stainless steel tube with smooth surfaces and rounded corners. Pipeline support systems hold stainless steel milk transfer pipelines at proper slopes for drainage. Control panel housings protect electronic controls for vacuum regulation and automatic detachers. Bulk tank components include support frames, access platforms, and cleaning system housings. Cleaning-in-place (CIP) system components include housings, pump mounts, and valve manifolds.
Material Selection
Grade 304 stainless steel is the standard material for milking equipment components, providing corrosion resistance against milk, cleaning chemicals, and moisture. Grade 316L is specified for particularly aggressive environments. For structural components without milk contact, galvanized steel provides a cost-effective option, but all milk-contact surfaces must be stainless steel.
Hygiene Design
All milking equipment surfaces must be smooth and easily cleanable without crevices, ledges, or dead spaces. Equipment designs must prevent water and milk accumulation with surfaces sloping toward drains. All materials in contact with milk or cleaning chemicals must be food-grade and compatible with CIP protocols. Equipment must be designed so that all surfaces are accessible for cleaning with removable panels and access doors.
Fabrication Process
Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts components from stainless steel sheet with clean cut edges essential for hygienic equipment. CNC press brake machines form components with specialized tooling for stainless steel, ensuring hygienic surfaces and proper drainage slopes. TIG welding produces smooth, hygienic welds ground and polished to seamless surfaces. Stainless steel components are pickled and passivated, with food-contact surfaces possibly electropolished. Our assembly team installs hardware, gaskets, and client-specified components with visual inspection and leak testing.
Case Study: Milking Equipment Components for a US Producer
Milking equipment components made for a large livestock producer in the US sit in the same stainless programme as the feeding line, which has run at around 5,000 pieces a year since 2016. This is the most cleanliness-critical part of a dairy installation, and the fabrication rules follow from that. Every internal corner is formed with a radius so that it can be cleaned, every joint on a product contact surface is welded through rather than mechanically fastened, and the assembly is electrolytically polished after welding to remove heat tint and restore the passive layer. What we do not do is polish over a weld that has already been finished with a grinding disc – that pushes contamination into the surface rather than taking it out.
Conclusion
Milking equipment component fabrication requires expertise in food-grade welding, hygiene design, and corrosion protection. Fulei Metal’s experience in dairy equipment fabrication makes us a trusted partner for milking equipment projects.
