What a Medical Equipment Housing Has to Get Right
Housings for medical equipment are judged on things a general enclosure is not: how clean the weld line is, whether a surface stands up to repeated cleaning, and whether the same part looks the same a year later. Those requirements come from the device maker, and they belong on the drawing.
Two things drive most of the work. The first is material — SUS304 and SUS316L are specified for different reasons, and 316L is usually chosen where chloride exposure or frequent disinfection is expected. The second is the weld: a TIG seam that is visible, or that sits in a cleaning path, has to be smooth and consistent rather than merely strong.
Regulatory approval for a finished device sits with the device manufacturer or a notified body. Our scope is the metal housing — the material, the welds, the surface finish and the inspection the drawing specifies.
Cutting, Forming and Welding Stainless Housings
Blanks are laser cut, then formed on CNC press brakes using tooling selected to avoid marking the visible face. On thin stainless, tooling marks and handling scratches are the most common reason a part is rejected, so formed parts are protected between operations.
Welding is TIG for seams that will be seen or cleaned. Weld sequence and fixturing are set to control distortion, because a housing that has pulled out of square will not close properly against its door or cover.
After welding, the surface is prepared for electropolishing or the specified finish. Edge and weld condition is reviewed before parts move on, since a finish follows the existing surface rather than correcting it.
Inspection Records for Equipment Housings
Dimensional checks follow the drawing, with critical mounting positions, cover or door fit, and any feature that mates with another component checked on the first part and through the run.
Weld condition and surface finish are reviewed against the agreed reference. Where the drawing specifies a surface finish requirement, it is stated in the quotation so the requirement is measurable rather than subjective.
Incoming material checks, first-article inspection, in-process dimensional checks and final inspection photos or reports can be provided. If your project requires specific documentation or a material certificate for the stainless grade, send the requirement with the drawing — it is easier to quote up front than to add it later.
Housings and Parts We Make for Equipment Builders
- Stainless housings and covers for medical equipment
- Consoles and carts with formed panels and welded frames
- Enclosures with smooth weld seams for cleaning
- Brackets and internal frames inside equipment
- Prototype housings produced before design freeze
What Speeds Up a Housing Quote
- 2D drawing with tolerances, and 3D model if available
- Material grade, including why 316L is specified if it is
- Which welds are visible or sit in a cleaning path
- Surface finish requirement, and whether it is measured
- Quantity, documentation needs and destination
Medical Housing Questions
Do you hold ISO 13485 or device certification?
No. Certification for a finished device sits with the device manufacturer or a notified body. We manufacture the housing to your drawing and to the inspection requirements you specify.
Can you work in SUS316L?
Yes. Both SUS304 and SUS316L are cut, formed and welded; which is right depends on the environment the equipment is used in.
Can a weld seam be made smooth for cleaning?
Yes. TIG seams can be finished so they are smooth to the touch. How far the finish goes is defined by the drawing.
Can you provide material certificates?
Yes, when the requirement is stated with the drawing so it is quoted rather than added later.

Trade Terms and Delivery
We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.
- EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
- FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
- CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
- DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.
Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Quotation Time
We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:
- Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
- Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.
Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
