How This Heavy-Duty Platform Trolley Is Fabricated and Checked
A platform trolley is judged by two things, both decided in the frame: whether the deck stays flat under load, and whether it still rolls straight after a season in a warehouse.
| Stage | What happens | What is verified before the job moves on |
|---|---|---|
| Deck and frame forming | Deck plate and frame sections formed and cut to size | The first-off is checked for flatness and overall size. A deck that is crowned will rock under a pallet load |
| Frame welding and squaring | Deck frame and axle brackets welded in a fixture | Diagonals and the wheel-to-wheel distance. A frame that is out of square rolls in an arc rather than straight |
| Axle and wheel mounting | Axle brackets positioned and drilled; wheels or castors fitted | The mounting plane is level and the contact points are coplanar. One high point becomes a wobble under load |
| Deck fixing | Deck plate riveted or welded to the frame, depending on the load rating | The fixing pattern follows the load path, and no fixing sits in a point-load area |
| Surface preparation and coating | Degrease, phosphate, then powder coat to the agreed colour | Film thickness and coverage on the deck edges, which take the wear |
| Assembly and load check | Handle, brakes and deck accessories fitted; the unit rolled and loaded | The trolley is rolled with load, and the brake and any swivel action checked before release |
| Packing | Edge protection fitted, then carton or pallet according to the route | The packed unit compared with the packing specification |

What Can Change on Heavy Duty Platform Trolley Sheet Metal Without New Tooling
A trolley is a forgiving product to customise, because almost everything a buyer wants to change is a dimension or a component choice rather than a new tool.
| What can be changed | What it affects | What it does not affect |
|---|---|---|
| Deck size and height | Deck plate size, frame section and the packing footprint | The wheel specification, provided the axle brackets move with the deck |
| Load rating | Frame section, deck thickness and the number of axles | The finish, which is applied after the frame is built |
| Wheel or castor type | Mounting plate pattern and how the floor is treated | The deck geometry |
| Swivel, fixed or braked arrangement | Manoeuvrability in the aisle and the brake access | The frame, as long as the plate pattern is unchanged |
| Handle type and position | Push height and the packed height | The deck |
| Deck surface: plain, raised pattern or lipped | Grip, and how the deck plate is formed | The frame |
Questions Buyers Ask About Heavy Duty Platform Trolley Sheet Metal
How is the load rating decided?
By the frame section, the deck thickness and how the load is spread, not by a single headline figure. A distributed pallet is not the same as a point load on one corner, and the axle brackets see far more force when the trolley is pushed than when it stands still. State the load and how it will sit.
Why does a trolley pull to one side?
Almost always because the frame is out of square or the contact points are not coplanar, rather than because of a faulty wheel. Both are set at the welding fixture, which is why the diagonals and the mounting plane are measured before the frame goes to coating.
Can the trolley be shipped flat to reduce freight?
The welded deck frame is what gives the trolley its stiffness, so a knock-down version means a bolted frame with more places to work loose. What is practical is to ship the handle or accessories as a separate pack. If freight is the driver, ask for both options priced.
The deck and the frame carry the whole product, so they are worth getting right before the finish and the accessories are discussed. Send the intended load, deck size and floor conditions through the RFQ form and the section is sized to those rather than to the nearest stock frame. Where a 500 kg Platform Trolley Actually Deflects
The load rating on a platform trolley is a distributed figure taken across the deck. In practice a trolley is loaded unevenly, pushed over a joint in the floor, and stopped suddenly. The part that responds first is not the deck plate, it is the span between the frame members under it. A 2.0 mm deck on widely spaced cross members will dish under a concentrated load long before the plate itself reaches its limit, and once the deck dishes, the trolley stops rolling cleanly because the load is no longer sitting over the casters the way it was designed to.
- Cross member spacing under the deck does more for stiffness than another 0.5 mm of plate – and it costs less weight.
- Checkered plate is specified for grip. The pattern has a direction, and the layout should put the raised pattern where feet and loaded containers actually sit.
- Caster capacity is rated per wheel. Four wheels rated at 125 kg each give the 500 kg figure, which means one damaged wheel takes the trolley to 375 kg of usable capacity.
Caster Specification Decides Whether the Trolley Tracks Straight
When a trolley pulls to one side, the frame is almost never the cause. It is a swivel caster whose bearing has worn, a wheel that has flat-spotted, or two wheels of different effective diameter after one of them picked up damage. Specifying the caster properly prevents most of it: a sealed bearing rather than a plain bush for a trolley that works every day, a tread hardness matched to the floor rather than the hardest available, and a brake on the wheels the operator can actually reach. Polyurethane is quiet and protects a finished floor; nylon is harder wearing on rough concrete and noisier on a smooth one.
The other half of the specification is the fixing. A caster bolted through thin deck plate will work loose; the mounting should land on the frame, and on a trolley that gets dropped off a kerb the mounting plate is the part that takes the shock. Tell us what the trolley runs on – smooth warehouse floor, yard, machine shop with swarf – and how often, and we will specify the wheel, the bearing and the mounting together. Lead time is quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Questions buyers ask before sending drawings
The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.
What do you need from me to quote Heavy-Duty Platform Trolley?
2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.
How long does a quotation take?
Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.
Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?
Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.
Need a Similar Part?
Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Heavy-Duty Platform Trolley — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.
We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.
No complete drawings yet? Describe the part, send photos or a sketch, or send a sample — we can start from there. Discuss your project.
