Guide rail supports are precision parts in a general fabrication shop, and the thing that makes them different is that the rail they carry is straight to a much tighter tolerance than a welded structure normally is. A support that is bolted to a fabricated frame transfers whatever unevenness the frame has into the rail unless it is given a machined reference face. That is why supports of this type usually have their mounting face machined rather than formed, and why the dimension from the mounting face to the rail seat is the controlled one.
