Pre-galvanized steel is the most economical option for indoor cable trays. For outdoor or corrosive environments, hot-dip galvanizing after fabrication provides superior corrosion protection, coating all cut edges and weld points. In food processing, pharmaceutical, and marine environments, 304 or 316L stainless steel cable trays are essential. For applications where color coding is required, powder coating provides both identification and additional corrosion protection.
Structural Design Considerations
Cable trays must support the weight of installed cables without deflection exceeding allowable limits. The load capacity depends on tray width, material thickness, side rail height, and support spacing. Standard support spacings range from 1.5 to 3.0 meters.
