How This Outdoor Fitness Equipment Housing Is Fabricated and Checked
An outdoor fitness equipment housing has to do two things at once that are hard to combine: keep water out of a box that lives outdoors all year, and resist being used as something to climb on or hang from. The housing is a fabricated shell. The equipment it covers is a separate product with its own safety requirements, and it is worth keeping that boundary clear.
Where the housing is galvanized and then coated, the two layers are applied as a duplex system with preparation between them rather than as two independent finishes.| Stage | What happens | What is verified before the job moves on |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting | 2.0 mm steel is laser cut. Panels, the door, and the apertures for shafts or controls are cut in one nest. | Apertures are checked against the components that pass through them. An aperture that is too large breaks the ingress protection; one that is too small cannot be sealed correctly either, because the gland or bearing has to seat on a defined face. |
| Bending | The housing is folded. Edges are turned to stiffen the panels that will carry load from use. | Panel flatness and the fit between the door and the opening are checked. A stiffened panel is not only stronger – it is the reason the seal face stays flat when someone leans on the housing. |
| Welding | The housing is TIG welded. Seams are placed away from the seal face where the design permits. | Weld distortion is checked against the seal face. This is the same discipline as any sealed enclosure: the seal only works where it is evenly compressed, and distortion is what stops that. |
| Seal face and door fit | The continuous seal face is established and the seal is fitted. | Flatness around the whole perimeter is checked with a straight edge. This single check decides whether the housing will keep water out in service. |
| Hardware and anti-vandal details | Hinges, lock and any external fixings are fitted, with fixings internal wherever possible. | The assembly is checked for external fixings that could be removed, and for anything that provides a foothold or a lever point. On a fitness installation the housing is at exactly the height where people will try to stand on it. |
| Pre-treatment and coating | The housing is degreased, conversion coated and powder coated. Where the housing is also galvanized, the coating goes over the zinc as a duplex system. | Coating thickness and adhesion are checked, with particular attention to the seal face and the aperture edges, which are the places coating is thinnest and corrosion starts first. |
| Final check and packing | The assembled housing is checked, and external hardware is either fitted or bagged separately. | Door fit, seal condition and aperture alignment are confirmed before packing. Housings are packed so coated surfaces cannot rub against each other. |

Where Outdoor Fitness Equipment Housing Can Be Revised Without New Tooling
The housing is cut, folded and welded, so size and aperture layout are open. Changes to the seal or to the equipment interface are the ones that need deciding early.
| What can be changed | What it affects | What it does not affect |
|---|---|---|
| Housing size and shape | Cut pattern and fold layout | The material thickness |
| Aperture size and position | Cut file and the seal detail around it | The main panels |
| Galvanized, coated, or both | The surface treatment route and the price | The fabricated geometry |
| Door arrangement and lock | The seal routing and the hardware | The seal face preparation |
| Colours | Powder batch | The structure |
Outdoor Fitness Equipment Housing: Common Buyer Questions
Does an IP65 housing make the whole installation IP65?
No. The rating applies to the enclosure as an item – what it means is that the box is designed so that dust cannot enter in harmful quantity and water projected at it cannot enter in harmful quantity. The equipment inside is a separate matter: every shaft that passes through a wall, every bearing and every adjustment mechanism is its own sealing problem, and a perfectly sealed housing with an unsealed shaft through it is not a sealed installation. If the installation has to meet a rating, tell us which apertures will carry moving parts, and the sealing arrangement at each one can be worked out as part of the housing design.
Why galvanize and then powder coat?
Because the two layers do different jobs and they cover each other’s weakness. Galvanizing protects the steel even where the surface is damaged – zinc is consumed slowly in place of the steel – but it is a grey finish with a limited colour range. Powder coating provides the colour and a smooth surface, but it is only as good as its adhesion and a scratch goes straight through it. Together, a scratch that reaches the steel is still protected by the zinc underneath, which is exactly what you want on equipment that will be climbed on. The combination does require the right preparation between the two layers, because powder does not bond well to fresh galvanizing without it.
Is the equipment certified to EN 16630?
The standard covers outdoor fitness equipment as a whole installation – the kinematic behaviour, the clearances between moving and fixed parts, the fall space around it, the height of any part a user can reach, and the labelling. That is a property of the complete piece of equipment, and it is established by the equipment manufacturer, not by the supplier of the housing. What is made here is the housing and its structural parts, and we will make them to whatever dimensions the equipment design requires, including the guard and clearance requirements the designer has set. Where a project needs the certification route set out, we will be straightforward about where our scope ends.
Send the equipment dimensions the housing has to cover, the apertures that need to pass through it, and the finish you want. Aperture sealing and the seal face are both designed at the same time as the housing. Send your requirement for a quotation.
Seal face flatness and door fit are confirmed on every housing before packing, the same inspection discipline used on the sealed enclosures elsewhere on this site.
An IP65 Target on an Outdoor Cabinet Is a Sealing Detail, Not a Rating You Buy
IP65 is written on the drawing as a design target and it is verified on the units that are actually built, which means it is achieved by a set of details rather than ordered as a feature. On a housing that sits outdoors and holds electronics, the details that decide it are the door seal and its compression, the cable entry, and the top face. The door gets most of the attention and the top face deserves more: water runs down a vertical face and sits on a horizontal one, and a joint on the top of an enclosure is a joint that is permanently being tested.
- The seal has to be compressed evenly, which is a door flatness and hinge question before it is a gasket question. A stiff door with a soft gasket does not seal.
- Cable entries are the most common leak path on an outdoor enclosure. A gland plate is specified with the cable schedule, not after it.
- A breather or drain at the low point handles condensation, which is internal water rather than rain and which no amount of sealing removes.
Anti-Vandal on a Public Housing Means Deciding What the Tool Is
Anti-vandal is specified constantly and defined rarely. In practice it means one of three things: the fixings are not accessible from outside, the lock is not a common type, or the material is thick enough that attacking it takes longer than it is worth. Those are different products with different costs, and a specification that says only anti-vandal will get you the cheapest interpretation unless it says which one it means.
On a 2.0 mm galvanized shell with a powder coat, the realistic threats are prying at the door and attacking the lock, not punching through the panel. That points the specification towards the door rebate and the lock housing rather than towards thicker steel – a rebate that does not give a lever any purchase does more than another half millimetre of material. Tell us which of the three you need and whether the housing is supervised or unattended overnight, because those two situations do not warrant the same build. Lead time is quoted after drawing review and process confirmation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Questions buyers ask before sending drawings
The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.
What do you need from me to quote Outdoor Fitness Equipment Housing?
2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.
How long does a quotation take?
Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.
Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?
Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.
Need a Similar Part?
Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Outdoor Fitness Equipment Housing — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.
We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.
No complete drawings yet? Describe the part, send photos or a sketch, or send a sample — we can start from there. Discuss your project.
