How This Conveyor Support Frame Is Fabricated and Checked
A conveyor support frame is a long, thin structural part. Two things decide whether it works: straightness over its length, and the flatness of the faces the conveyor bolts to.
| Stage | What happens | What is verified before the job moves on |
|---|---|---|
| Section cutting and preparation | Legs, cross members and rail supports cut to length | Length and the squareness of the cut ends. A leg cut on the skew puts the whole frame out before it is welded |
| Frame welding in a fixture | Frame tacked and welded in a fixture that holds length and straightness | Frame length, diagonals and the straightness of the rail support line, checked against a straight edge or a string line |
| Leg and foot provision | Adjustable feet or base plates fitted | Base plate flatness, and that the adjustment range covers the floor tolerance that will be met on site |
| Interface face preparation | The faces the conveyor bolts to are checked and prepared | Flatness and condition of those faces. A conveyor bolted to an uneven face runs out of line |
| Hole and slot provision | Mounting holes and slots made to the conveyor interface | Hole positions relative to the rail line, and slot direction where site adjustment is needed |
| Surface preparation and coating | Degrease, phosphate and powder coat, or galvanising to the specification | Film thickness and coverage inside the frame, which is where a coated or galvanised frame starts to fail |
| Trial assembly and packing | Frame assembled with its own sub-parts, then packed for length | That the mating parts line up off the drawing, and that a long frame is supported in transit rather than sagging |

What Can Change on Conveyor Support Frame Without New Tooling
Length, leg spacing and the interface pattern are the three variables; the rest follows from them.
| What can be changed | What it affects | What it does not affect |
|---|---|---|
| Frame length and height | Section size, leg spacing and the packing | The conveyor interface pattern |
| Leg spacing | The span and the deflection under load | The frame section, provided the spacing stays within its range |
| Feet: adjustable or fixed base plates | Installation tolerance and the floor interface | The frame |
| Conveyor interface pattern | Whether the conveyor bolts straight on without modification | The legs |
| Material and finish | Corrosion category and the finish cost | The straightness requirement |
| Dividers, guards and side rails | Whether they belong to the same frame | The main structure |
Conveyor Support Frame: Common Buyer Questions
How is straightness held over a long frame?
By welding in a fixture and by the weld sequence, not by correcting afterwards. A frame of several metres welded free will pull as the welds cool, and how much depends on the section and the heat input. The fixture holds the geometry while that happens.
What should the leg spacing be?
It follows the load and the permissible deflection, and it is usually the conveyor manufacturer who sets it. If the spacing is given we size the section to it; if it is open, give us the load and the deflection limit and the spacing follows.
Can the frame be galvanised instead of powder coated?
Yes, and for outdoor or washdown lines it usually is. Two things to plan: the frame has to be designed so galvanising can drain properly, and interface faces that have to stay accurate may need masking or to be left machined.
Straightness and the bolt-on faces are what make a support frame usable, and both come from the welding fixture. Send the conveyor interface and the load through the RFQ form so the section and the spacing are sized to it. Related: welding, custom sheet metal fabrication and surface finishing.
Where a Conveyor Support Frame Actually Carries Load
The stated capacity of 500 kg per metre is a distributed figure, and real installations rarely load a frame that evenly. A heavy unit sitting at one point, a drive motor hung off one end, an impact as product drops onto the belt – those are the cases that bend things. The frame is a laser-cut and bent assembly in 3-5 mm Q235 that is welded and then coated, and the welds are where the load path either continues or stops. We detail the joints so load travels through the section rather than pulling at the throat of a fillet weld, and we flag it when a drawing concentrates load over a span with no support under it.
- Adjustable height means adjustable – the leg connection has to hold its setting under vibration, so we prefer a bolted sleeve with two fixings over a single pin.
- Bolted connections are the field assembly method, so hole position on the leg and the cross member is what determines whether the frame goes up square. We hold it in the flat pattern, not by fitting on site.
- Powder coating in a safety yellow such as RAL 1023 is a specification choice; the coating does the same job in any colour, so the reason to specify it is visibility and site convention.
Coating Preparation on a Welded Frame
A welded frame has mill scale, weld spatter and sharp edges before it has a finish. Coating over any of those gives a film that looks fine on day one and lifts at the edges within a season. The preparation sequence – descaling, deburring, then a conversion pre-treatment before powder – is the part of the job that decides how the finish ages. If your site is a wash-down area or a food environment, tell us at quote stage, because the pre-treatment and the powder chemistry change with that answer.
Length is per layout, so there is no standard part. What we need is the run length, the belt width, the height range and the load per metre you are designing to, plus whether the floor is level. From that we produce the flat patterns, hold the tolerances the drawing states, and quote a lead time after drawing review and process confirmation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Questions buyers ask before sending drawings
The questions that come up most often before a project starts, answered the way we answer them by email.
What do you need from me to quote Conveyor Support Frame?
2D drawings as PDF, DWG or DXF, or 3D files as STEP, IGES or SolidWorks, together with material grade, sheet thickness, surface finish, quantity and destination country. If the drawing is not finished yet, send a photo, a sketch or the existing part instead — we review what can be measured from it and reply with the questions that still need answering.
How long does a quotation take?
Enquiries are answered within one business day. Simple laser-cut and bent parts are quoted within 24 hours. Welded frames, assembled units and multi-part structures are quoted after the drawing review and process confirmation, and the date is confirmed in our reply.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Prototypes are made from a single piece and small batches of 10–50 pieces are routine. Prototype, first batch and repeat volume are quoted together so the numbers stay consistent as the project scales.
Can you work from a sample or a photo if I have no drawing?
Yes. Send the part itself, clear photographs with a rule or caliper in frame, or a dimensioned sketch. We measure what can be measured, list what is still undefined, and confirm it with you before production.
Need a Similar Part?
Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Conveyor Support Frame — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.
We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.
No complete drawings yet? Describe the part, send photos or a sketch, or send a sample — we can start from there. Discuss your project.
