Learn how electric vehicle frame components are fabricated from sheet metal for EV chassis and structures. Discover material selection, weight optimization, and real-world applications.

What to Expect From Electric Vehicle Frame Component Fabrication

Electric vehicles require lightweight frame components that compensate for battery weight while providing structural integrity and crash safety. Sheet metal fabrication offers the precision and material options needed for EV frame construction. At Fulei Metal, we fabricate EV frame components for electric vehicle manufacturers across Europe and Japan.

EV Frame Component Types

Battery pack enclosures protect battery modules from impact and environmental exposure. Motor mount brackets secure electric motors to vehicle frames. Suspension component brackets attach suspension systems to frames. Chassis cross members provide structural support between frame rails. Crash structure components absorb impact energy. Heat shield components protect sensitive components from battery and motor heat.

What Material Suits Electric Vehicle Frame Component Fabrication

High-strength steel provides components requiring maximum strength with minimum weight. We use 1.5 to 3.0 mm high-strength steel sheet. Aluminum provides significant weight reduction for non-critical structural components, typically 5052 or 6061 alloys. Stainless steel provides corrosion resistance for underbody components exposed to road salt and water. All materials must meet automotive crash safety standards and provide adequate strength-to-weight ratios for EV applications.

Detail Decisions on Electric Vehicle Frame Component Fabrication

Components must minimize weight to compensate for battery mass while maintaining structural integrity. Battery enclosures must protect batteries from impact, water, and thermal events. All components must meet automotive crash safety standards. Designs must accommodate battery pack integration, electric motor mounting, and high-voltage cable routing. Thermal management features may include heat shield mounting and ventilation paths. Components must withstand vibration from electric motor operation. Corrosion protection must resist road salt and water exposure.

Shop Sequence for Electric Vehicle Frame Component Fabrication

Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts frame components, brackets, and enclosure panels from flat sheet stock with precise dimensions. CNC press brake machines form component profiles, enclosure shapes, and mounting brackets with precision bending for structural integrity. Component assembly uses MIG welding for high-strength steel and TIG welding for stainless steel and aluminum, with full-penetration welds at structural connections. Surface treatments include powder coating, anodizing for aluminum, and electropolishing for stainless steel.

Field Notes: EV Battery Enclosure and Frame Components

Battery enclosure and frame components are specified around stiffness and crash behaviour at the same time, and both are properties of the assembly rather than of a single part. What a metal fabricator contributes to that is dimensional accuracy and consistency: a battery module sits on mounting features whose position decides whether the module is stressed when it is bolted down, and a tray that is a millimetre out will put a load into a module that was not designed for it. On the frame side the concern is stiffness in torsion, because a battery pack is a stiff box in a structure that twists, and the interface between the two has to allow for a small amount of movement rather than fight it. Where these parts are galvanized or coated, cut edges and weld seams on the inside of a closed section are the places to watch, because they cannot be inspected once the pack is assembled.

Need a Similar Part?

Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Electric Vehicle Frame Component Fabrication — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.

We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Send Your Drawings

Trade Terms and Delivery

We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.

  • EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
  • FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
  • CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
  • DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.

Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
