Explore the design and fabrication of livestock feeding systems including troughs, feeders, and delivery components. Learn about material selection, hygiene design, and real-world installations.
Why Livestock Feeding System Fabrication Gets Specified
Proper nutrition is the foundation of productive livestock farming, and feeding systems must deliver feed efficiently while minimizing waste and contamination. From simple troughs to automated feed delivery systems, each component must be durable, hygienic, and appropriate for the target animal species. At Fulei Metal, we fabricate feeding system components for cattle, sheep, pig, and poultry operations across multiple continents.
Feeding System Components
Feed troughs hold feed for animal consumption, fabricated from galvanized steel sheet formed to profiles that minimize waste. Automatic feeders deliver controlled amounts at specified intervals, with feeder bodies, dispensing mechanisms, and mounting brackets. Feed delivery systems use augers or chains to transport feed, requiring delivery tubes, drop tubes, and drive mounting brackets. Feed storage bins hold bulk feed, protecting it from moisture and pests. Mineral feeders provide free-choice access to supplements with weather-protective covers.
Material Choices Behind Livestock Feeding System Fabrication
Galvanized steel is the standard material with zinc coating providing corrosion resistance against feed moisture, animal saliva, and waste. We use 1.0 to 2.5 mm sheet and tube. For components in direct contact with wet feed, stainless steel (grade 304) provides superior longevity. For enhanced appearance, powder coating over galvanized steel provides a smoother, easier-to-clean surface.
Design Notes for Livestock Feeding System Fabrication
Feed represents the largest cost in livestock production, so trough profiles prevent animals from pulling feed out and feeder designs control feed flow. Feeding systems must be designed for easy cleaning with smooth surfaces, rounded corners, and drainage features. All components must have smooth edges and appropriate gaps for animal safety. Feeding systems face daily abuse from animals, feed abrasion, and cleaning, requiring adequate material thickness and reinforcement.
Fabrication Sequence for Livestock Feeding System Fabrication
Our TRUMPF fiber laser cuts trough blanks, feeder components, and mounting brackets. CNC press brake machines form trough bodies and feeder housings with precise bending for waste-minimizing profiles. Component assembly uses MIG welding for galvanized steel and TIG welding for stainless steel, with all feed-contact welds continuous and ground smooth. Galvanized components are hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, with stainless steel components possibly electropolished.
Feed Contact Parts: Why Stainless and Full Welds
Stainless is chosen for feed contact for a practical reason rather than a cosmetic one: it does not rely on a coating that a feed trough will wear through in a season. What the material does demand is that the fabrication respects its limits. 304 work-hardened by an earlier forming operation will crack at a radius it took without complaint on a fresh sheet, so the tightest radius on the part is checked against the actual material batch – on a test piece, before the batch runs. Feed contact joints are TIG welded through rather than spot welded, because a spot weld leaves a gap between two layers of sheet that no brush reaches.
Where to Start With Livestock Feeding System Fabrication
Livestock feeding system fabrication requires understanding of animal nutrition, hygiene requirements, and durability challenges. Fulei Metal’s experience in feeding equipment manufacturing makes us a trusted partner for livestock feeding projects.
For OEM buyers the practical next step is a drawing review — see our DFM engineering review for what we need and how fast we turn it around. This work sits inside our custom sheet metal fabrication capability, and Tool Management for Sheet Metal Assembly explains the technical background in more detail.
Need a Similar Part?
Most enquiries that start on a page like this are not an order for Livestock Feeding System Fabrication — they are a search for a factory that can make something like it. Send us your drawing, 3D model or sample and we will review the manufacturing process and the quotation requirements, then come back with a process plan, a price and a lead time.
We work from 2D drawings, STEP / DWG / DXF / PDF files, or a physical sample if that is all you have.

Trade Terms and Delivery
We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.
- EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
- FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
- CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
- DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.
Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.
Payment Terms
How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.
- 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
- 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
- 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.
If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.
Quotation Time
We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:
- Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
- Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.
Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
