Equipment and Capacity: Laser, Bending, Welding

Factory Facts

Most factory pages say “advanced equipment” and “strong capacity”. Neither tells you whether your part can be made. This page lists what we actually run, what thickness each machine handles, and — just as important — which steps we do ourselves and which we do not. If your drawing falls outside these figures, we will tell you at drawing review rather than quote it and discover the problem on the line.

Laser cutting

MachinePowerWhat it is used for
2 × fibre laser3,000 WThin to medium sheet. Faster on thin material and more economical per part.
1 × fibre laser6,000 WThicker plate and stainless, where a 3 kW machine slows down or loses edge quality.

Cutting thickness by material:

MaterialThickness range
Carbon steel0.5 – 18 mm
Stainless steel0.5 – 15 mm
Aluminium0.5 – 10 mm
Read the top figure carefully. Those are the maximum thicknesses the machines will cut. In production, the economical range sits below the maximum — edge quality, taper and cutting speed all drop off as you approach it. If your part is at the top of the range, we will say so and tell you what it does to cost and lead time instead of quietly quoting and then asking for a design change.

CNC bending

  • 4 CNC press brakes, 250 tonnes each
  • Maximum bed length 3,000 mm — a full 3 m panel, cabinet side or door is formed in one setup instead of being split and welded
  • Bend sequence, inside radius, springback compensation and flange distances are set on the first piece and checked before a batch continues
  • Panels are formed with protective film or urethane tooling where the surface matters — stainless, aluminium and pre-coated sheet

Tonnage only becomes a constraint when it is spread over a long bend. Required force rises with the square of thickness but only linearly with bend length, so with 250 t on every machine the practical limit looks like this in mild steel:

Bend length250 t press brake will form
3,000 mm — the full bedabout 10 mm
1,500 mmabout 20 mm
800 mmabout 30 mm
The useful part of that table. A 10 mm flange that is 400 mm long is well inside what these machines will do, while the same 10 mm spread across a full 3 m panel is at the limit of the biggest one. Cabinets, plinths, floor plates and structural frames all sit in that shorter-bend range, which is why 250 t across four machines covers more than the headline figure suggests. If your part sits at the edge, we say so at drawing review rather than discovering it on the shop floor.
What 3,000 mm actually buys you. A long bed is the difference between a one-piece cabinet side and a two-piece welded assembly. It removes a weld, a grinding step, a straightening operation and a leak path. If your enclosure is taller than 3 m we will tell you at drawing review; below that, it forms in one piece.

Welding

  • 10 welding stations in the same building as the cutting and bending equipment
  • Fixturing and weld sequence planned to hold flatness and dimensional fit, not just to join parts
  • Corner seams ground and dressed where a cosmetic or sealed finish is required

Surface treatment — what we do not run ourselves

Powder coating is carried out by our coating partner, not on a line we own. We would rather state this plainly than let you find it during a factory visit, because it is the sort of thing that ends a supplier relationship when it surfaces late.

What we do control:

  • Specification — we set the pre-treatment (chromate or zirconium conversion on aluminium, iron phosphate on steel) and the film build, typically 60–80 µm for exterior work
  • Approval before the batch — a drawdown panel is approved against your RAL or brand colour before production coating starts
  • Inspection on receipt — film thickness is measured and recorded; adhesion and appearance are checked before parts go to assembly
  • Corrosivity categories — for coastal or industrial installations we specify to ISO 12944 C4 or C5-M, which changes both pre-treatment and powder chemistry

Where a specification calls for a named two-component wet paint system, we say so at quotation stage and route it to a controlled applicator rather than substituting powder and hoping nobody checks.

Inspection equipment

  • Height gauge — dimensional checks against the drawing on first articles and in-process
  • Coating thickness gauge — film build measured and recorded per batch
We do not have a CMM. We measure what a height gauge measures accurately: linear dimensions, step heights, hole positions relative to a datum. For parts where the critical requirement is a complex geometric tolerance — true position across a large panel, profile of a formed surface, or full 3D conformance — we will tell you that up front. Some buyers accept first-article dimensional reporting on a height gauge for those parts and some do not; we would rather establish that in week one than in week eight.

If your part needs a step that is not on this list — deep drawing, stamping, anodising, silk screening — we will say so in the first reply instead of quoting a number we cannot hold. Equipment lists with photographs and a current capacity statement are available on request.

Send the STEP or DWG with material and thickness. We will confirm in the first reply whether it falls inside our range, and if it does not, what the alternative is.
