Designing a Guard That Operators Can Live With

A machine guard has to do two jobs that pull against each other: keep people away from the hazard, and let operators and maintenance staff do their work without removing it. Guards get bypassed when they make routine work difficult — and a bypassed guard protects nobody.

So the first questions are about use. What has to be reached, how often, and with the machine stopped or running? That decides whether a guard is a fixed panel, a hinged access door, or a panel with an interlock provision.

Material follows the environment. SPCC and galvanised SGCC suit painted guards inside a machine frame; aluminium is used where weight matters or where a guard is removed frequently.

Cutting, Forming and Finishing Guards and Access Panels

Panels are laser cut, including perforated and mesh-backed patterns where airflow has to be maintained while access is prevented. Guards are formed to stay rigid without adding weight — a folded edge usually does more than thicker material.

Hinged panels and access doors are built with fixings and any interlock bracket position defined on the drawing, so the guard fits the machine rather than being adjusted on site.

Parts are deburred and powder coated to the specified colour. Safety colours are applied to the finish specified by the buyer, and any labelling is produced from artwork you supply.

What We Check on a Guard or Cover

Fit is checked against the mounting points on the drawing, because a guard that has to be forced into position will end up left off the machine. Hinged panels are checked for travel and for clearance against adjacent parts.

Edges are checked for burrs, particularly on panels that are opened by hand and around ventilation patterns. Coating coverage is checked at edges and folds.

Incoming material checks, first-article inspection, in-process dimensional checks and final inspection photos can be provided. A guard is a component of the machine: compliance with the applicable machinery safety requirements is assessed on the assembled machine by the machine builder or a notified body.

Guards and Covers We Produce

  • Fixed machine guards and perimeter panels
  • Hinged access doors and inspection covers
  • Perforated and mesh ventilation guards
  • Belt, pulley and drive guards
  • Covers for conveyors and moving assemblies

What Speeds Up a Guard Quote

  • Drawing or sketch with mounting positions
  • What has to be reached, and how often
  • Material and thickness, or weight constraints
  • Ventilation or visibility requirements
  • Colour, labelling artwork and quantity

Machine Guard Questions

Can you make a guard from a sketch?

Yes. Send the sketch with mounting positions and dimensions and we will produce a drawing for confirmation.

Can guards be hinged or removable?

Yes. Hinged access doors and removable panels are both produced; fixings and interlock bracket positions come from the drawing.

Can you keep airflow while blocking access?

Yes. Perforated patterns and mesh-backed openings are produced to keep ventilation while preventing reach.

Do guards come certified?

A guard is a machine component. Compliance with the applicable machinery requirements is assessed on the assembled machine by the machine builder or a notified body. We build to the drawing you specify.

Trade Terms and Delivery

We quote under the standard Incoterms your logistics team already works with, and build the packing and documentation around the one you choose.

  • EXW — you collect from our Ningbo facility and run export clearance through your own forwarder.
  • FOB Ningbo — we deliver to the vessel at Ningbo port and handle export clearance.
  • CIF — we cover carriage and insurance to your named destination port.
  • DDP — we handle carriage, insurance, import clearance and duties through to your door.

Send your destination country, target delivery date and preferred trade term together with the drawing. Request a quotation.

Payment Terms

How a project is paid for is agreed before production starts, and the structure that applies to your order is stated on the quotation and on the order confirmation, so there is no ambiguity later.

  • 30% advance payment with the order and the 70% balance before shipment — our standard structure.
  • 70% advance payment with the order and the 30% balance before shipment — used for some projects.
  • 100% payment in advance before production starts — used for some projects.

If your finance team works to a fixed structure, say so in the first enquiry and we will confirm what applies to your order before you commit. Request a quotation.

Quotation Time

We quote from your drawings. How long that takes depends on what the part asks for:

  • Simple parts — quoted within 24 hours. Laser-cut blanks and bent components, supplied with complete 2D or 3D drawings. Mon–Fri, GMT+8.
  • Complex assemblies — quoted after the drawing review. Payment kiosks, multi-part welded frames, enclosures with purchased hardware, or anything needing a coating or assembly trial. We confirm a quotation date once the scope is clear.

Production lead time is quoted separately, after drawing review and process confirmation. Send your drawings.
